The Enchanted Art of Andy Kehoe

The Enchanted Art of Andy Kehoe

Artist Andy Kehoe creates hauntingly beautiful illustrations that combine natural elements, mysticism and storytelling. Typical settings for these illustrations occur in an enchanted forest, where protagonists are usually found alone and sporting antlers, regardless of their species. The mood is one of silence, contemplation and awe at the beauty of nature and the cosmos. Despite the isolation of these characters, there is a sense of deep connectivity, with the forest and other animals. When other characters do appear there’s a great sense of affection and camaraderie afoot.

Brilliant use of color and dramatic contrast brings an otherworldly quality, underscoring an adventure not just through the Great Outdoors, but the Great Within of a spirit that reflects the infinite hues of a magical world. The integrity of the rendering belies the innocence and universal appeal of these pieces, which could find themselves at home on a museum wall or in a children’s book a la Maurice Sendak. Regardless of setting these illustrations are sure to enchant children of all ages.
