Belgian filmmaker and artist Vincent Bal is known for his feature films, shorts, and has also made waves in the art world thanks to his unique imagination. While he was working on a new script in May 2016, he suddenly noticed how the shadow of a teacup on his desk looked like a little elephant. He completed the image with a few lines, and shared it on instagram to an overwhelmingly positive response. He went on to make his sketches a daily habit and general philosophy which he calls “Shadowology”. Vincent is able to coax scenes and characters from non-descript shadows, providing only minimal use of the pen to reveal his own interpretations. He has become so adept at this technique that he is planning a book and feature film around it. Much like his pieces, the artist’s story brings to light how just one moment of inspiration can influence many creative directions, career paths and overall perception of our world.
